Description

Do you want to prevent the spread of infections in the hospital?

If you want to know about the best practices to prevent the spread of infection, then you have come to the right place.

A healthcare associated infection (HAI) is an infection acquired by a patient in a hospital or any healthcare setting. This course provides an overview of an infection, chain of infection, transmission of an infection, most common diseases in India and healthcare associated infection. After learning the fundamental aspects of infection, we shall move on to prevention of healthcare associated infection. To prevent HAI, you should adopt appropriate infection control measures- Standard precautions and additional precautions. However, the type of precaution that should be taken depends on the risk faced by the patient. So, first perform risk assessment as outlined in this course. Next, we shall learn about the various components of standard precautions. We begin with “What, when and how of hand hygiene?”. Next, we shall focus on personal protective equipment or the specialised clothing which safeguards the healthcare worker (HCW) from infection. This course also provides a brief on other standard precautions such as cough etiquette, ensuring sharps safety, safe injection and infusion practices, managing a spill, biomedical waste management, engineering control measures, cleaning and disinfection of an equipment based on Spaulding classification, patient care equipment cleaning and linen management.

Based on the mode of transmission of infection, you should take additional precautions. Follow the best practices outlined in this course and prevent transmission of infection. Adopt aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT) discussed in this course and prevent HAI during a procedure.

This course also outlines the steps involved in using care bundle to monitor surgical patient or a patient with an indwelling device.

To make the course more interesting, we have sprinkled it with videos. And we have also provided additional reading materials if you wish to gain more knowledge. We request you to make the best use of all the learning materials.

By the end of this course, we aim to transform you into an infection control champion.
