1. Identify patient correctly

Patient identification is the process of correctly matching patients to planned interventions on them. Learn the best practices to avoid patient misidentification before a procedure. Follow the guidelines outlined in the course to ensure proper side and/or site marking before surgery.

2. Improve effective communication

An effective communication between healthcare workers (HCWs) ensures prompt and safe patient care. Learn about the phone communication tools (For example: ISBAR) which help in conveying patient-related information in a correct and concise manner.

3. Prevent medication errors

Familiarise yourself with the medication administration workflow. Follow the best practices best practices to ensure medication safety – Ten rights, triple checks and correct documentation in the drug chart, that are outlined in this course.

4. Ensure safe surgery

An infection that occurs in a surgical patient at the site of operation is known as surgical site infection (SSI). Learn how to prevent surgical site infection by ensuring operating theater (OT) asepsis. Also learn how to use WHO’s surgical safety checklist to ensure patient safety in the OT.

5. Reduce risk of healthcare associated infections

A healthcare associated infection (HAI) is an infection acquired by a patient in a hospital or any healthcare setting. Learn how to use a care bundle to reduce the risk of HAIs.

6. Reduce risk of patient harm from fall

Falls and fall-related injuries are a common and serious problem in hospitalised patients especially in case of children and older people. Learn how to perform fall risk assessment of a hospitalised patient.  Ensure patient safety by adopting the fall prevention strategies that are outlined in this course.
